My Venture into the Adventure Zone

I imagine most don't hear about podcasts and think "that sounds hilarious." Until fairly recently, I assumed all podcasts were either NPR or this one podcast that somehow ended up on my first iPod about how we were all going to die if we didn't get enough iodine. I was more than presently surprised when a friend of mine finally convinced me to give a podcast a listen. Now, I'm addicted. Although "The Adventure Zone" wasn't my first love, it is the only podcast I find myself going to for a relisten. TAZ, as it's affectionately known, was one of the first podcasts of its kind and very few podcasts of the dungeneering genre have measured up since. What started off as three brothers and their dad goofing off playing Dungeons and Dragons turned into a multi-arc (no multi-campaign) saga, bringing their listeners unsurprisingly to laughter but surprisingly to tears. Starting out, you don't expect the Tres Horny Boy's slapstick comedy to lead to the amount of emotional invest it does, but Griffin (your Dungeon Master and best friend) truly paints a compelling world. Griffin's gift for storytelling surprises even himself, but he truly has a skill that few published authors can claim. The first couple of episodes are the requisite character introduction and explanation that anyone who has ever played D&D is familiar with; however, listening to these episodes is really necessary if you don't want to be lost. If I still don't have you convinced to dedicate your life to over 100 episodes and counting, let me present an aperitif to the world of podcasting.
